Athagarh, Sep 1:
A woman was crushed to death by an elephant at Suniamuha village under Khuntuni forest range in Athagarh sub-division of Odisha’s Cuttack district this morning. The deceased was identified as Urmila Pradhan.
According to reports, the elephant, which stormed into the village this morning, dragged the woman and trampled her when she was coming out of her house. She died on the spot, sources said.
Following the incident, irate locals blocked NH-55 near Orand by burning tyres demanding compensation for the family members of the deceased. They also staged road blockade at Paikerapur Chhak disrupting vehicular movement on Cuttack-Sambalpur route.
Hundreds of vehicles remained stranded on both sides of the road, reports said.
