Rayagada, Jun 20:
Union Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram yesterday pulled up the Odisha Government for its failure to spend financial assistance given by the Central Government and instead engaging in political rhetoric of ‘Central Negligence’.
“Odisha Government has failed to utilise even half of the Rs 421 crores given by the Union Government for various tribal welfare schemes during 2014-15. Instead, it is engaging in political rhetoric of central negligence,” said Oram while speaking at a district level workers’ meet at the Krushnachandra Bhawan in the town.
Giving an example of the disastrous administration of state government in the state, he cited the meeting he just had with Rayagada collector.
“Union Government has approved 387 schemes for Rayagada district. However, in today’s meeting with the collector, he could only present reports on 287 schemes. He had no data on the rest 100 schemes. This issue raises questions on the efficiency of the State Government,” he added.
He went on to allege that BJD leaders frame policies that suit their need and use pressure tactics on the administrative officials to bag the funds.
“While Maoists loot under the cover, BJD does it in open. The district has the highest number of Ashram schools, but the government doesn’t take any action even though highest numbers of girl students get sexually abused in this district. Everyone thinks Naveen Patnaik is free from corruption, but he has his hands dirty with mega scams like chit fund, land, coal and water scams,” said Jual.
The minister arrived here tyesterday on a two-day tour of Rayagada to attend various programmes of the government and BJP.
Speaking to the press, he exuded confidence that BJP would bag all 14 assembly constituencies of undivided Koraput district in the next elections under the leadership of Giridhar Gamang.
