Dhenkanal, Feb 18:
Police today made a major breakthrough by arresting the prime suspect in the Joranda Nua Sahi murder case in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district wherein four members of a family were found murdered on February 2.
The accused turned out to be the eldest son of the family.
“Rakesh Behera, the eldest son of the murdered family is the prime accused in the Nua Sahi murder case in Joranda in which four members of the family were murdered on February 2” said Manoranjan Mohanty, SP Dhenkanal at a press conference here today.
Rakesh killed his father Makardhwaj Behera (52), mother Sukanti (50), sister Trifala (22) and younger brother Bikash (20), he said.
“Rakesh has confessed to the crime during interrogation”, Mohanty said.
Rakesh has been arrested and forwarded to the local court today.
It may be mentioned here that locals had found bodies of Makardhwaj Behera, his wife, son and daughter, in the early morning hours on February 2 and informed the police. Makardhwaj worked as a mason in the village.
Following information, police had reached the spot and began its investigations after sending the bodies for post mortem.
While the bodies of Makardhwaj, his wife and daughter were retrieved from a well in the backyard of the house, the body of his son Bikash was found in a room.
Local people had then suspected the crime to have been committed by a close relative because the family was not known to have enmity with anyone in the area.
