New Delhi, Aug 22
President of India Pranab Mukherjee yesterday said that Odisha had enjoyed the political stability during the 14-year tenure of JB Patnaik as the chief minister of the state.
Addressing a gathering at Rashtrapati Bhawan in New Delhi on the occasion of the release of a book ‘Janaki Ballav Patnaik: The March to Modern Odisha’, he said the book has a detailed narrative on development in Odisha during the rule of the JB Patnaik as the chief minister.
The contribution of Odisha to Indian literature and culture is immense, Mukherjee said adding the literature and culture of the state have been further enriched by the contribution of Patnaik.
“Janaki Babu had created a new history in Odisha through industrialization and put the state on par with other states of the country”, he added.
Releasing the book, President of Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) and former MP and
Governor Dr Karan Singh spoke highly of Odisha’s art and culture. He later handed over the first copy of the book to the President.
Speaking about the book, the former chief minister and Assam governor said it is not an autobiography, but a compilation of articles on developmental programmes implemented in Odisha during his tenure.
In his welcome address, editor of Sambad and chief editor of the book Soumya Ranjan Patnaik spoke about the development of Odisha during JB’s rule.
Among others, former chief secretary of Odisha Gyan Chand and Jnanapith awardee Sitakanta Mohapatra also spoke. Wasbir Hussein, another editorial team member of the book gave the vote of thanks.
