Japanese Encephalitis deaths touch 50 in Odisha’s Malkangiri

With the death of two children at District Headquarters Hospital, the toll due to Japanese Encephalitis infection has reached 50 in Odisha’s Malkangiri district.


According to reports, the two minors were admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) of the District Headquarters Hospital where they were receiving treatment for the vector-borne disease.

However, they died while undergoing treatment today taking the toll to 50 in the district, in a span of 35 days.

The deceased have been identified as five-year-old Amit Madkami from Dariguda and a seven-year-old girl Rebica Madkami from Katangapali under Padia block in the district.

In view of the alarming situation, Health Secretary Arti Ahuja for the second day today took stock of the situation. She visited the Badli village and reviewed the situation.

Meanwhile, a team headed by PCC president Prasad Harichandan today visited the worst-affected Malkangiri district.
