Killer Japanese Encephalitis (JE) claimed lives of two more children in Odisha’s Malkangiri taking the death toll in the vector-borne disease to 97 in the district.

The deceased were identified as Bablu Halua (5) of MV-22 under Korakonda block and Jhansi Bhumia (5) of Mathili. Both succumbed to the disease while undergoing treatment at the District Headquarters Hospital.

Two kids had died of the disese yesterday while undergoing treatment.

A 12-member team including seven experts of the state Health department and the Centre is on a visit to the district since November 5 to take stock of the situation.

Meanwhile, the Malkangiri District Adivasi Samaj Mahasangh has called for a bandh on November 8 on the issue. The Mahasangh will also hold a massive rally in front of the district collectorate on November 9 to highlight the issue, reports said.
