Soumya Ranjan Patnaik, Editor of ‘Sambad’, on Tuesday said courage and a steely resolve to unravel the truth was the key to the success of this premier daily.
Addressing the block level reporters’ meeting at Hotel Swosti Premium here, Patnaik urged reporters to stick to this principle to uphold the legacy of ‘Sambad’.
“Success cannot be achieved without courage”, he said asking them to find ways to address the challenges being faced by the media at present.
Since its inception, Sambad had given top priority to the pride and self-esteem of Odisha, Patnaik said adding it would continue to do the same in future too.
In his address, editor of Sambad editorial page Ranjit Guru stressed on the error-free presentation of news.
“The media of late has been facing a crisis of reliability and trust. It is frequently charged with hiding or misrepresenting facts. In these trying circumstances, journalists must work hard to restore the credibility and trustworthiness of the media”, said features editor Gourahari Das in his address.
Senior journalists Bhabanishankar Tripathy, Dhiren Mishra and Dhirendra Samantray spoke on the best practices and techniques of good reporting.
Chief General Manager, news bureau Bamapada Tripathy advised reporters to investigate the details of the implementation of all government sponsored welfare schemes and present them before the people to keep them informed and vigilant.
Among others, director of Kanak TV Pruthviballav Patnaik, COO Kamalakanta Mohapatra, editor of odishasuntimes.com Sampad Mahapatra, editor of Pulanka Sambad and eminent writer Das Benhur, Prasad Rao, Arabinda Das, Pratap Mahapatra, Prahllad Das, Manish Ahuja, Binod Panda, Baijayanti Kar, Anirudh Acharya, Hafij-ur-Rahman and senior officials of Sambad were present at the meeting.
Earlier, joint managing director Monika Nair Patnaik welcomed the guests and participants.
The afternoon session of the meeting was convened and co-ordinated by Swaraj Mishra, secretary of ‘Ama Odisha’ and COO (non-print), Eastern Media.
The meeting, attended by Asit Mohanty, secretary (publication), Ama Odisha, Subhashree Lenka, state convener of Sambad Sahitya Ghara and Sisir Bhattamishra, head (news bureau) of Kanak TV, discussed the blood donation and literary programmes of the organization.
