Odisha police Wednesday arrested an 11-member inter-state gang of dacoits from Rayagada and seized about Rs 11 lakh from their possession, police said today.
Police have also seized a Fortuner SUV, three motor bikes and ten crude hand grenades from them, police added.
Police said the gang was also involved in the ‘Hanuman paisa’ cheating cases. While some members in the gang were from Andhra Pradesh, others hailed from Rayagada district, said police.
“Yesterday we got credible information that some people at Halua in Rayagada were planning something. Based on suspicion we conducted a raid and caught them. On their interrogation it was was found that they were planning to commit a dacoity.
We arrested ten of them from the spot and another was also arrested. A total of 11 persons have been nabbed. They had planned to loot an Automatic Teller Machine (ATM). We recovered cash, swords, knives, liquor bottles, a Fortuner car and a Pulsar bike from them. During interrogation it was revealed that the gang had cheated several people in lakhs in the name of ‘Hanuman paisa’. We have recovered Rs 10.65 lakh from them on this account. The moey was recovered when we raided a hotel room in Rayagada where they were staying,” said K Siva Subhramani, S P Rayagada at a press meet here today.
