Adelaide, Nov 27:
The two-day tour match between the Cricket Australia (CA) XI and India was cancelled as a mark of respect for Australian batsman Phillip Hughes, who died Thursday after being hit by a bouncer in a domestic first-class match.
“CA today advises that the two-day tour match between CA XI and India in Adelaide has been cancelled. The decision has been made in consultation with the players and the Australian Cricketers’ Association (ACA), following the tragic passing of Phillip Hughes earlier today,” Pat Howard, CA executive general manager of team performance, said in a statement Thursday.
“We have spoken to the players and the ACA and have made the decision based on the best interest of all concerned. We appreciate the support and cooperation shown by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), team management and the India players who have been nothing but respectful during this tragic time.”
India’s second and final tour-match in Australia before the start of a four-match Test series was scheduled to start Friday here. Indians drew the first two-day match against Cricket Australia XI. (IANS)
