Puri, Sep 7:It is Durga puja and Diwali all rolled into one for the parental village of Ananya Sritam Nanda, the winner of Indian Idol Junior, season 2, in Brahmana Alandia village in Odisha’s Puri district.
Celebrations have not stopped here since a little before 10 pm last night when the 13-year-old was announced the winner of the closely fought national singing competition on Sony entertainment channel.
The delighted villagers burst crackers and danced to tunes of the songs Ananya sang during the show. They gave credit to Ananya’s victory to all Odias who voted for her. Her family members said her success was due to the support from whole of Odisha and the blessings of Lord Jagannath and her Gurus.
Her family members said that Ananya has=d been practising singing since she was four years old. She would wake up early in the morning to practise everyday without fail.
Her first guru was her elder sister Amrita Pritam, a biotechnology student in Bhubaneswar. After learning the basics from her, Ananya fell in love with singing. She had participated in the Indian Idol Junior competition last year too, but without success, having been eliminated in th very first round. But far from being frustrated, the failure increased her confidence and strengthened her resolve.
Her father Prasanna Nanda said that if one works with dedication, one will definitely achieve success even if its is delayed.
Ananya, a Class IX student of DAV Public School, Pokhariput, on Sunday pipped two other contestants in the grand finale of Indian Idol Junior organised by Sony Entertainment Television as winner. She has signed a contract with Sony and received Rs 10 lakhs in cash, Rs 3 lakh worth gifts and a bike from Yamaha.
