Indian Biotech Industry Conclave held at KIIT in Odisha

Indian Biotech Industry Conclave – 2014, organized by the KIIT School of Biotechnology and KIIT-Technology Business Incubator (TBI), was today inaugurated at the KIIT campus in the Odisha capital.

KIIT 1Inaugurating the conclave, Dr. Raman Govindarajan, Head R&D, Sonafi Aventis said that biotechnology is not a new concept and its origin can be traced back to 7000 years. Biotechnology offers immense scope for students aspiring for a career in it, he said, explaining that it opens up opportunities in medicine and health care as well as nature and living organisms. Students and academician should plan their research keeping in view the needs of industry and society, he advised.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Amulya Panda, Sr. Scientist, National institute of Immunology said that there are abundant opportunities in the field of biotechnology research and development in Odisha. Students should explore these avenues, he added.

Earlier, in his welcome address, Dr. Achyuta Samanta, Founder, KIIT & KISS informed that even though it was established recently in 2007, the School of Biotechnology has become an important school of the KIIT University.

The School is active in encouraging research, development as well as entrepreneurship in biotechnology, he added.

KIITProf. P. P. Mathur, Vice Chancellor, KIIT University elaborated on the importance of biotechnology in today’s life. In his keynote address, Dr. M. Suar, Director, KIIT School of Biotechnology explained the objectives of the conclave.

During this two-day conclave, various spheres of biotechnology like biotechnology-nurturing and sustaining public health, recent developments in vaccine industry, role of biotechnology industry in future growth in R&D, etc. will be discussed.

Academicians, experts and representatives from different reputed pharmacy companies, biotech industries and research institutes are participating in the Conclave.
