Bhubaneswar, Feb 1:
The Capital Police on Saturday arrested a home guard Laxmidhar Sahu of Hadiganga village under Rupasa police limits in Baleswar district on charges of providing wrong information to the police.
Sahu was forwarded to the local court here today, police sources said.
According to sources in the Capital police station, hundreds of home guards who had taken part in an agitation on March 22 last year at the Lower PMG square demanding a better pay package, had got involved in a pitched battle with the police.
Several persons from both sides were injured in the incident.
Laxmidhar was among those who were arrested for the violence.
During his interrogation, Laxmidhar had identified himself as one Prafulla Biswal from Baleswar. The police had lodged a case against him in that name and forwarded him to the court. Based on this false information, the government later dismissed Prafulla, Biswal, a home guard who had absolutely nothing to do with the violent incidents of March 22, 2013.
After receiving the dismissal order, Prafulla Biswal filed a petition with the High Court saying he had been unfairly treated and victimised because he never took part in the agitation. The court then ordered a probe into the matter.
During investigation, police went through the CCTV footage as well as the video and photographs recorded by the media and got to know that it was not Prafulla but Laxmidhar who had taken a leading role in the violence.
The Capital Police arrested Laxmidhar today for misleading them with a fake identity and forwarded him to the court , sources said.
