Hirakud dam in Odisha to release first flood water tomorrow

The Hirakud dam in Odisha’s Sambalpur district will release the first floodwater from Mahanadi river this monsoon  tomorrow.

“The floodwater would be released from the dam between 11 AM and 1 PM,” Rabindra Panda, superintending engineer of Hirakud Dam, informed the media today.

The water level in Hirakud reservoir crossed 610 feet this morning. 603.97 feet at 9 PM yesterday, the water level in the reservoir had reached 610.83 feet by 3 pm today.

Till reports last came in, the reservoir was receiving 4,92,806 cusecs of water per second while 16,885 cusecs of water per second was released through the power channel and canals.
