Burla, Sept 22:
Following heavy rain in the upper catchments of Mahanadi, authorities of the Hirakud dam in Odisha opened eight gates of the reservoir in phases on Sunday.
As against the reservoir’s optimum level of 630 feet, the water level had touched 628.85 feet by 9 PM.
The inflow of upstream water into the reservoir during the period was 1,10,217 lakh cusecs while the outflow was 1.44,667 lakh cusecs of which 1,09,055 lakh cusecs was released through eight gates, 4973 cusecs from the power channels and 4393 cusecs through the canals.
The rainfall recorded in the last 24 hours till 8.30 AM today was 31.08 mm in the upper catchments and 26.76 mm in the lower catchments of the river.
