Bhubaneswar: Two persons travelling on a motorcycle with the rider wearing helmet will no longer be ‘enough’ for obeying traffic rules as the Odisha government has decided to make helmet compulsory for pillion riders as well.
Chief Secretary AP Padhi announced about the new regulations through video conferencing at the State Secretariat today.
“Though the numbers of accidents have decreased in Odisha, fatalities per accident figure is not very encouraging. Hence, helmet will be made compulsory for riders and pillion riders in the state,” said Asit Tripathy, Principal Secretary, Home.
Besides, police stations across the state will be given the power of MVI under which police officials of ASI rank or above can penalise the violators and cancel their driving licenses, he added.
