Bhubaneswar, June 6:
While the heat wave persisted in most parts of Western Odisha on Friday, the entire coastal belt experienced great discomfort, thanks to the high humidity levels.
While Sambalpur and Titlagarh were the hottest places with 43.5 degree Celsius each, temperature went up to 40 degree or above in Jharsuguda (41.7), Sundargarh (41), Hirakud (42.8), Talcher (40.5), Bhawanipatna (42), Malkangiri (40.8) and Sonepur (42).
On the other hand, people in all coastal districts experienced 80 percent relative humidity with moderate heat, making it almost unbearable.
The local Met office in a release here this evening said the southwest Monsoon that hit Kerala coast today has made a steady advance and is expected to reach Odisha coast in two weeks, latest by June 16.
The release also said rain or thundershower is likely at some places in the next 72 hours.
