Police have arrested the headmaster of a sevashram in Odisha’s Koraput district for allegedly thrashing a class three student leading to severe injury to her right eye besides sexually abusing a class seven student.
Both the students have left the Badahanjar sevashram in Kulabir panchayat, Nandapur block for their homes, according to sources.
Police, on Thursday, arrested the accused headmaster Arjun Pradhan after they were informed by District Child Protection Officer about the allegations.
Last Monday, the girls had gone to the nearby river to play after school hours. Upon their return, they were censured by the head teacher and a class three student was badly beaten up by him. The alleged brutal thrashing led to a severe right eye injury.
After the news spread, scores of villagers gheraoed the school and warned Pradhan to desist from such activities.
On hearing the allegations, Child Protection Officer and Childline officials had questioned the head teacher and the students. The students had alleged that Pradhan regularly gave them corporal punishment.
They also told the officers that a class seven student was sexually abused by the head teacher of the sevashram.
