A single bench of the court of Justice AK Rath on Friday issued the directive to the aforesaid officials while hearing the writ petition filed by Pratap Kumar Sahu and eight others.

The petitioners have alleged that the Home Guard commandant general has issued the circular on appointment, reappointment and retrenchment of Home Guards in gross violation of the existing rules.

The commandant general, in a letter to all district commandants on May 6 this year, directed them to implement the circular with immediate effect which is illegal and unconstitutional, they said, while urging the court to intervene in the case and cancel the circular.

The court will have its next hearing on the case after the summer vacation.
