In view of heavy rush during world famous Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath in pilgrim town Puri in Odisha, the district administration has sent notice to around 34 hazardous buildings located on Grand Road for demolition ahead of the festival.
The eviction order has been issued by sub-collector Madhusudan Dash for safety purpose after inspecting the old buildings on the Grand Road.
The hazardous buildings which have been sent the notices for eviction included — Annapurna theatre, Jaiguru press Bhartuhari Mahatab, Rajkishore Pal, Niladri Yuva Parishad, Lokbhasha Prachar Samiti, Madhusudan Pujapanda and few mutts including Jhanjipita mutt, Nirmohi Akhada mutt, Kausalya Das mutt, Shankarananda mutt and Hati Akhada mutt.
If the buildings could not be demolished in time, the building owners have been directed to take steps towards sealing the buildings.
Notably, the notice is issued to the owner of the hazardous buildings every year for safety issues. However, the tourists and devotees enjoy the Rath Yatra sitting on the roof of the buildings.
