Nabarangpur, Sep 17:
Congress today called a 10 hour hartal in Odisha’s Nabarangpur district on Thursday demanding action against Nabarangpur BJD MLA Manohar Randhari for his alleged involvement in the torture of a local tribal woman leader.
“The hartal call has been given in protest against alleged police inaction over the serious complaint made by Prabhati Kondho, former chairperson of Tentulikhunti Block in the district against Randhari”, said Nabarangpur district Congress president Narayan Patra.
On September 15, Prabhati who is also from the ruling BJD, in a complaint to the police alleged that Randhari did not return Rs 4 lakh and seven tolas of gold which he had taken from her during the elections in April this year.
Prabhati alleged in the FIR that when she continued to ask the MLA to return her money and gold, Randhari ensured her removal from the post of chairperson of the Tentulikhunti Block.
Prabhati has also brought very serious allegations against MLA Randhari accusing him of trying to outrage her modesty and making indecent proposals to her.
Prabhati alleged that the MLA was now threatening her and her family.
Randhari, however, has dismissed all allegations made against him by Prabhati claiming that it has been done out of frustration. He alleged that Prabhati was dancing to the tunes of the Congress party and said since the police was investigating into the matter, the truth will before the public soon.
Prabhati said she had drawn attention of chief minister Naveen Patnaik to the matter on September 2. She rued that she did not get justice and the MLA was not punished.
She said the chief minister had asked her to be patient and to wait.
Police said they have already made a station diary after receiving the complaint from Prabhati and the matter is under investigation.
