Puri, Dec 1:
A three-member team of GRP (Government Railway Police) today visited Odisha’s Puri and interrogated Puri train arson accused Ramachandran Subash in connection with the train arson in Haridwar.
Besides, the visiting team recorded his statement under section 161 of CrPC based on an earlier approval from a Puri court.
As per information provided by Dinesh Kumar, one of the interrogating officers from Haridwar GRP, the team is trying to establish if he had any involvement in the train fire incident that took place on November 4 in Haridwar.
Even though the investigating team refused to disclose any specific information to the press, they hinted at receiving crucial information from him.
Earlier in the day, Subash was shifted back to jail in Puri after his remand period got over today. He was in Bhubaneswar on a three-day remand for interrogation.
It may be recalled that a major fire had broke out at Puri Station on November 12, in which two coaches – each of Nandankanan Express, Tirupati Express and one coach of Puri-Howrah Express – were reduced to ashes even though there were no casualties. Moments later, Ramachandran was arrested from the spot with a knife, a blade and a match box as we reported here.
The State Government on November 26 wrote to center for a NIA (National Investigative Agency) probe into the incident given its increasing complexity as we reported here. Besides, the Puri SDJM (Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate) court on November 21 had allowed the GRP (Government Railway Police) to conduct a polygraph test of Subas Ramchandran for further investigation as we reported here.
