Hardcore woman Maoist surrenders in Odisha

A hardcore woman Maoist surrendered to Bisra police in Odisha’s Steel City of Rourkela on Wednesday. She cited frustration in Maoist camp and her mother’s sickness as the reason for her surrender.

Speaking to a section of media after her surrender, Swapna Niharika Honhage, the surrendered Maoist, said she was feeling frustrated with the approach of Maoist  leader and their behavior in Maist camps. “I was feeling furstrated with the approach of  our leaders in the camp since I was not being able to attend my ailing mother, for which I decided to surrender myself,” she said.

“Swapna Niharika Honhage was working as a section commander in Saranda forest area of Odisha-Jharkhand border area, offered to surrender and accordingly we have accepted her surrender in Bisra Police station on Wednesday,” said Subash Chandra Jammadar, Additional SP, Rourkela.

“Her case would be recommended  by us to the state government and she would be provided all benefits as per the provision of state government’s surrender police,” Jamadar  added.

Sources said, Swapna Niharika Honhaga (27), a native of Baliba of West Singhbhum district in Jharkhand,  had joined CPI (Maoist) in 2011 under Mao commander Sandeep. She had obtained armed training and joined the armed cadre of Maoist.

Police sources said she was actively involved in the police-Maoist clash in 2013 at Renjda. Besides, she was active in Saranda forest area of Odisha border and was a most wanted Maoist cadre under K Bolang police station of the
district.

She however had a change of mind and surrendered to Bisra police station.
