Begunia Police in Odisha’s Khordha district on Wednesday busted a gun manufacturing unit in Thannapalli village in Cuttack district and arrested the owner of the illegal unit Babuli Moharana (58) and his son Sanjay Moharana (22) in this connection.
The police have seized three half manufactured country-made guns, three live ammunitions, nine rounds of Khoka, 50 grams gun powder and equipment used in manufacture of ammunitions from their possession.
After getting information from the reliable sources about manufacture of guns under Begunia police limits, police staffs under the supervision of Inspector-in-charge of the police station Biswaranjan Sahu conducted a raid earlier in the day in Thannapalli village and nabbed the father and son duo for running the illegal gun manufacturing unit for the past few years.
The IIC also informed that the guns made by the duo were sent to Begunia area for sale. Babuli used to get Rs 7000 towards a gun. Three years back, he was arrested for selling guns to his customers by Baideswara police in Cuttack.
Registering a case (101/2015) in the incident, police have slapped charges under sections 25(1-A) (1-B)(a) of the Arms Act against the accused.
Both have been sent to the judicial custody after their bail pleas were rejected by a local court in the district.
