Bhubaneswar, Oct 10:
The National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC), probing the killing of five innocent villagers by the police near Gumudumaha in Odisha’s Kandhamal district, on Monday issued summons to the Additional Director General (ADG) of Human Rights Protection Cell (HRPC), Kandhamal District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police to appear before it in person on October 19, official sources said.
The Commission had earlier recommended for registration of cases against police personnel involved in the firing under the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
It may be mentioned here that five persons including a two old were killed in police firing during an anti-Maoist operation in Kurtamgarh forest near Gumudumaha on the night of July 8. These men were returning home from Baliguda after withdrawing their wages under MGNREGS from a bank in an auto-rickshaw.
