Inspector in charge (IIC) of Ghatagaon police station Dilip Sahu, who was killed in an attack by dacoits in Saharapada area, was given a guard of honour this morning.
Gun salutes rent the air while floral wreaths were placed on the coffin carrying Sahu’s body by Higher Education minister Badri Narayan Patra,DIG RK Sharma and other police officers.
“Sahu’s exemplary devotion to duty and his supreme sacrifice will always remain an inspiration for policemen not just in Keonjhar, but the entire state,” Sharma said on the sombre occasion.
Patra described Sahu as a brave officer, who was totally dedicated to his duty.
Sahu’s body was later taken to his native village Dumal in Kalahandi district where he was cremated this evening.
The Odisha Police Association has decided to contribute Rs 1 lakh to the bereaved family of the brave police officer who is survived by his wife and four-year-old son.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has already announced an ex gratia of Rs 8 lakh for Sahu’s family.
