Govt shielding MLAs, officials in chit fund scam, BJP tells Guv

Bhubaneswar, Sep 13:

Blaming the BJD government for the chit fund scam in the state, the state BJP today said that the investigation ordered by the government into the scam was going on at snail’s pace to protect ruling party politicians and officials involved.

A five-member BJP delegation met Governor SC Jamir and apprised him of the slow progress in the investigation of the chit fund scam. They also urged the Governor to direct the government to hand over the case to CBI in the greater interest of the people of the state.

The state government under the Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik was not at all serious about bringing the culprits to book or to take measures to see that the amount embezzled is returned to the poor depositors, the delegation said.

They alleged that the government was not investigating the matter with the intention of uncovering the officials and politicians, who helped the scamsters to subvert the system.

“The political patronage extended by many ruling party MLAs was instrumental in the crooks pulling off such a heist. The chit fund companies had the patronage of the ruling party and a few of them were also given joint venture contracts,” they alleged.
