Bhubaneswar, Feb 6:
In the backdrop of the Speaker rejecting the opposition move for an adjournment motion on the mining scam in the Assembly earlier in the day, state BJP president KV Singhdeo has claimed that the government is ‘scared’ of discussing the matter on the floor of the house.
“Ever since the Shah Commission Report on Odisha’s mining scam was leaked, the Naveen Patnaik led BJD government has gone into an overdrive. It has written to the Centre that the Vigilance Probe into the mining scam was making progress. It has done so apprehending that the mining scam could be handed over to the CBI,” said Singhdeo at a press conference here today.
The spectre of a CBI probe is hanging like the proverbial Damocles sword over the head of Naveen Patnaik and his government, the BJP leader said. Though the opposition had been trying hard to discuss the matter in the Assembly, the government was hell bent on pushing the matter under the carpet, he added.
“The matter has been scheduled for discussion on the 11th February knowing full well that Narendra Modi will address a meeting in Bhubaneswar on that very day. The double standards of the government have been exposed by this petty and lowly tactics,” said the state BJP president.
Singhdeo also said that even though the Shah Commission had identified 96 mines which had violated all rules and norms, the Vigilance probe in looking into the violation of only six mines. “Only a CBI inquiry can grill the involved persons, including politicians, and bring out the truth” he said.
