Bhubaneswar, Feb 21:
The Odisha government today provided protection to Barsa Swony, daughter-in-law of former minister Raghunath Mohanty.
Talking to reporters here, special secretary of the state Home department Lalit Das said that the decision was taken following the directive of the chief minister.
“I met chief minister Naveen Patnaik this morning and requested him to provide me protection as I am receiving threats from my in-laws. The chief minister assured me of protection without delay”, Barsa told reporters later.
Barsa said the CM has promised that action will be taken as per law and that the government will not show any leniency towards the Mohantys just because they are in the ruling party. She also said she had drawn the attention of the CM to the fact that the Odisha Human Rights Protection Cell has not yet submitted any charge sheet.
Barsa Swony had filed a dowry torture case against her father-in-law Raghunath Mohanty, husband Rajashree and others last year. Raghunath Mohanty who was dropped by the Naveen Patnaik ministry as law minister later, was arrested from Kolkata along with wife. Barsa’s husband Rajashree was also arrested.
Barsa had filed an FIR in Balasore on March 14, 2013 accusing her husband and his four family members of torturing her physically and mentally for dowry. They were married in June 2012,
