The Odisha government has decided to crackdown on the alleged illegal construction activities on forest land by Ind Barath Energy Utkal Ltd, ( IBEUL ) which is implementing a coal based thermal project at Sahajbahal in Jharsuguda.
The Forest department has asked the DFO, Jharsuguda to provide details of the illegal construction of the boiler, turbine, chimney etc which have come up allegedly on forest land and details of FRA compliance, if any.
“It may be specifically indicated whether construction activities, if undertaken on forest land, has been stopped by the project proponent. It may be also be indicated whether project activities on non-forest land is going on without forest clearance in violation of FC Act guidelines. If so, details of action taken to prevent such construction activities may be indicated,” said a letter of forest department written recently to the Jharsuguda DFO.
It also asked the project proponent to vacate the forest land occupied by them without proper authorization.
“Full details of violation along with the area and land schedule may be furnished to this department so as to inform the MoEF, to keep the environment clearance in abeyance,” said the letter.
The department has decided to initiate departmental proceedings against the forest guards or foresters for not reporting the unauthorized encroachment by the company to the department.
Action will be taken against the defaulting officials by January 5, sources said.
