Bhubaneswar, May 14:
Following the Indian Meteorology Department (IMD) forecast that the southwest monsoon would reach Odisha by mid-June, the state government has directed the district collectors to complete river and canal embankment repair works before June 16.
The directive was issued by chief secretary JK Mohapatra at a high level review meeting on cyclone and flood preparedness at the State Secretariat here on Tuesday.
Mohapatra also asked the district administration to renovate the existing flood and cyclone shelters and store essential commodities to deal with the possible natural calamities.
He also asked the Odisha State Disaster Management Authorities (OSDMA) authorities to undertake mock drills in all the cyclone and flood shelters to ensure full proof arrangements.
Present at the meeting, Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) PK Mohapatra said the collectors have been also asked to store adequate cattle feeds in the cyclone and flood shelters.
