Bhubaneswar, Aug 20
The Odisha government has asked district collectors to submit the required information on payment of pre-matric scholarship to Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) students directly through their bank accounts from the 2013-14 academic session latest by August 24. A letter in this regard was sent by the SC and ST Development department to all district collectors recently.
“We are making all out efforts to introduce the new mode of payment of pre-matric scholarship from the 2013-14 academic session,” said minister for ST and SC Development, Minorities and Backward Classes welfare Lal Bihari Himirika.
He said the new system will not only avoid delay in the payment of scholarship, but also ensure direct payment to the individual bank accounts of students.
The decision would benefit over 14 lakh students of classes IX and X, including day scholars and boarders from 1,596 different hostels run by the department, said sources in the department.
The monthly pre-matric scholarship amount for day scholars of classes IX and X is Rs 150 for boys and Rs 245 for girls. For boarders, it is Rs 620 for boys and Rs 650 for girls.
