Governor calls for global standards in education

Governor and Chancellor of Universities SC Jamir on Wednesday called upon educational institutions to deliver international standard to be counted as a force to reckon with globally.

Delivering the Convocation address of 6th Convocation of Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT) here, Jamir, said; “Do not ask what the country or the state has done for you; ask yourself what you have done for the country or the state. The stateslooks at you with great expectations and it is your turn to repay at least a bit of the debt you owe to your motherland.”

Quoting former President of India Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam who had once said “A man who graduated yesterday and stops learning today, will surely became uneducated tomorrow”, Jamir said knowledge is fast emerging as a tool of development, engine of growth for nations and an important factor in India’s aspiration to be global and economic power.

While delivering the welcome address, BPUT Vice Chancellor, Prof. JK Satpathy informed about the various activities of the university at present and its future course of action. Prof. Satpathy advised the students to be a good human being and follow the footprints of the true son of soils.

The governor conferred gold medals on 17 meritorious students for their excellence in various courses on the occasion.

Apart from 17 students awarded with Gold medals for becoming toppers in their respective field of study, special Arjun Bhuyan Gold Medal of securing highest CGPA was conferred to B Tech students Paratha Sarathi Mohapatra and Dillip Kumar Santra, Gold Medal for best B Pharm graduate awarded to Amiya Kanta Sharma of Royal College of Pharmacy, Berhampur and Bhubanananda Das Gold Medal for highest grade point in M Tech course to Ms. Bhagya Shree of CIPET, Bhubaneswar.

Altogether 38295 students were conferred with degrees in the BPUT Convocation for the academic year 2011-12 and 2012-2013 out of which 8 were PhD Degrees. There were 790 M Tech, 539 M Pharma, 32449 B Tech, 62 B.Arch, 1225 B Pharma, 2263 MBA and 1981 MCA degrees.

Among other, Prof SS Mantha, Chairman of All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), BPUT Registrar Dr MR Nayak, functionaries of different institutions under BPUT and students attended the Convocation.
