Balangir, Nov 11:
“Time and again, I have asked people about the number of good and bad people in this world but have never been satisfied with their reply. But today’s gathering proves that there are good people in this world and they would continue to make a difference in the future too”, said Soumya Ranjan Patnaik, Editor-in-Chief of Sambad and chairman of Ama Odisha while addressing a packed audience at the Town Hall here on Sunday.
Inaugurating a convention of blood donors organised by Ama Odisha, Patnaik said the credit for the success of Ama Odisha, which has been honoured and awarded by the governor and chief minister for seven consecutive years for the highest collection of blood in the state, goes to the blood donors.
“I have come all the way to Balangir to express my gratitude to the blood donors”, he added.
Patnaik said this unique programme was the outcome of determination. “There was no proper effort to unite people and make them aware of blood donation. But realising the importance and shortage of blood, I took up the mission that has ushered in a new era in the state”, he said.
He said every human being has to lead a life of coexistence to survive in this world. “A healthy person is born to donate blood to the sick and ailing patient. Donating blood makes not just the receiver, but also the donor and the organiser happy”, he pointed out.
Referring to the efforts of Ama Odisha, he said while the organisation has kept up its effort to bring about a sea change in the Odia language, it has also made its identity through blood donation.
Lamenting that today’s youth is keeping itself away from exercising their franchise in a democratic set-up, Patnaik urged the youth to get involved in the process to elect a capable leader.
Among others, chief guest of the convention Dr Krushna Prasad Bohidar, Dr Jyotsnarani Mohapatra, Lalit Nayak, former member of Ama Odisha State Executive Council, Ama Odisha secretary Swaraj Mishra, Sanjay Patra, director (admn) HDF, and Hari Narayan Pujari, member of Ama Odisha State Executive Council, praised the efforts of Soumya Ranjan.
Several organisations including Balangir Chambers of Commerce, Marwari Sammelan and Yuva Manch, Balangir Action Committee, District Bar Association, Sindhi Samaj, Yuva Karan Samaj, Chitragupta Kalyan Samiti, Private Bus Owners’ Association, Truck Operators’ Association, Shramik Karmachari Mahasangh, District Primary Teachers’ Association, Druggist and Chemist Association, Rotary Club felicitated Patnaik on the occasion.
