Bhubaneswar: After gold worth over Rs 4 crore were seized from Mumbai-bound Jnaneswari Express near Jharsuguda railway station yesterday, the Department of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) today arrested the two detained businessmen.
The accused duo has been identified as Dhanraj Mahadev Yadav and Rahul Aryan. They were travelling from Rourkela to Jharsugada via Jananeswari Super Deluxe Express, said DRI officials.
Yesterday, Officials of Central Excise and Customs, acting on a tip-off about gold smuggling, intercepted the train near Jharsuguda railway station and seized 110 gold biscuits weighing 12.9 kg.
It is suspected that the two are involved in an international gold smuggling racket. However, DRI officials are further interrogating the accused to elicit more information in this connection, sources said.
