New Delhi, Feb 21;
The Supreme Court on Friday declined to hear a public interest litigation ( PIL) against the allotment of plots to judges of the high courts of Odisha and Gujarat.
The Supreme Court bench led by Justice H L Dattu asked the petitioner NGO ‘CPIL’ to approach the respective high courts first.
The petitioner’s advocate Prashant Bhushan urged the apex court to hear the matter, arguing its refusal would send the message that courts shy away from taking up contentious issues relating to judges.
Bhushan pointed out that as many as 10 judges of the Odisha High Court had applied for such plots under Chief Minister’s discretionary quota and said he had reasonable apprehension of bias in the high court.
However, the bench refused to hear the matter ahead of the concerned high courts and disposed of the PIL.
