Odisha High Court yesterday rejected the anticipatory bail plea of Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT) Assistant Professor Pradeep Kumar Jena in the high-profile gay sex row.

The court dismissed the bail plea after opposition from the government attorney.

Pradeep Kumar Jena, the Assistant Professor of OUAT Basic Science College’s Chemistry Department, had been trying to get bail from the court to avoid an arrest since past four days. He has so far managed to get a bail only in the case pertaining to threats issued to the victims over phone.

It may be noted that seven students of the university had brought charges of sexual harassment, physical abuse and threatening over phone against the professor. Four of them later lodged FIRs against the professor at the Khandagiri police station and deposed before the police.

Even though the professor continues to remain in Bhubaneswar-Cuttack area, the police has not been able to arrest him.

The complainant students have accused the police for using dilly-dallying tactics in arresting him. They have warned to gherao the Khandagiri police station if he is not arrested soon.

“We have asked for the call details of Pradeep’s mobile phone and are still investigating the case,” said Sarat Kumar Sahu, IIC of Khandagiri police station.
