Bhubaneswar, Dec 13:

Demanding regularisation of their jobs, hundreds of Gana Sikshaks today staged dharna in front of the residences of six Odisha ministers here.

The agitating teachers protested before the residences of School and Mass Education Minister Debi Prasad Mishra, Finance Minister Pradip Amat, Panchayati Raj Minister Arun Sahoo, Energy Minister Pranab Das, Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Sanjay Das Burma and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Bikram Keshari Arukha.

Police have detained around 50 teachers who had staged a sit-in protest in front of Minister Debi Mishra’s residence, sources said.

The Gana Sikshak Mahasangh has alleged that necessary modalities for regularisation of their jobs are yet to be published even after 5 months of publication of government notification in this regard.

The state government has placed Odisha Teacher Eligibility Test (OTET) in the modalities to be published, as a result of which more than 17,000 trained and working Gana Sikshaks would be deprived of getting permanent jobs, the mahasangh alleged.

“The members of the mahasangh could have discussed the matter instead of going for agitation. Emphasis is being laid on different directions of the modalities. The structure of the modalities has been finalised. A decision in this regard will be taken soon,” said Minister Debi Prasad Mishra.
