Four women among eight killed in lightning in Odisha

Eight persons, four of them women, were killed and eight others seriously injured in three different incidents of lightning in Odisha this afternoon.


In the first of the two incidents, three women labourers were felled by lightning a short distance away from their village Pendrakhol in Deogarh district while they were returning home after finishing their work in a local crusher unit.

A fourth woman critically injured in the incident was rushed to the local hospital by villagers, who arrived at the scene 15-20 minutes after lightning struck. The injured woman was still in an unconscious state when reports last came in.

In the second incident, a father-daughter duo was killed when lightning struck them at Somrathguda villag under Mathili police limits in Malkangiri district in the afternoon.

Another daughter and son of the deceased were also critically injured in the incident. They have been taken to the Mathili hospital for treatment.

In the third incident, two workers died in Temera village in Kosagumuda block while one person was killed and five others died in Chanchanbeda village in Umerkote block of Nabarangapur district.
