Four students of Odisha’s Ravenshaw varsity drown in Mahanadi

In a tragic incident, four students of Ravenshaw University today drowned while bathing in the river Mahanadi at Jobra Barrage in Odisha’s Cuttack city.

Fire brigade and ODRAF personnel have fished out bodies of all the four students.


Those drowned have been identified as Shahnawaz Khan, Debaprasad Rath, Pyarimohan Pradhan and  Pritiranjan Das.

They were the students of Information Science and Telecommunications (IST) and Information Technology Management (ITM) courses.

Reports said five students of Ravenshaw University had gone for a bath in the river Mahanadi at Jobra Barrage around 3.10 PM today. While one student lost his balance while bathing, others tried to rescue him and got drowned in the process.

One student was rescued by the locals.

Cuttack collector Nirmal Mishra, DCP Sanjeev Arora , Vice Chancellor Ravenshaw University Prakash Sarangi and the varsity’s registrar all were present during the rescue operations.

Bodies of the deceased have been sent to SCB Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem.
