The Commissionerate Police today arrested four students of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) on the outskirts of the Odisha capital and four locals for their alleged involvement in a brawl inside the college premises and ransacking the institute canteen yesterday.

Khandagiri police identified the four arrested AIIMS students as Partha Sarathi Acharya (21) of Khurda district, Swastik Saurav Mishra (21) of Sundargarh district, Aswini Kumar Panda (23) of Ganjam district and Akshyat Srivastav of Uttar Pradesh. Besides, four locals of Sijua village were also arrested for indulging in a fight with each other and ransacking the canteen.

“A case (No 33/15) has been registered against the eight accused. They were all produced in the court today,” police said.

Earlier, a doctor of the institution had lodged a complaint with the Khandagiri police for allegedly being thrashed during a scuffle between the college students and locals.

Dr Pravash Ranjan Mishra said a clash broke out between the students and at least 100 locals inside the college premises. “When I tried to pacify the fighting locals and the college students, the outsiders thrashed me,” he said.
