Five women footballers of Odisha, who were rescued from the quake-hit Nepal on Sunday, today arrived Bhubaneswar in a flight from New Delhi.
The team including Janaki Murmu, Iva Panna, Banya Kabiraj and Shanti Murmu arrived at Biju Patnaik International airport this afternoon.
However, Shraddhnajli Samantray, who had assisted the India’s Under-14 girls football team as deputy coach to participate in the Asian Football Confederation’s (AFC) Regional Championship for the South and Central Zone, will return to Odisha later, sources said.
The 19-member squad had returned to Delhi at around 4.55 PM yesterday from the Kathmandu.
Though the evacuation operations of the team was delayed due to fresh tremors in Nepal, the footballers and team officials reached in Delhi airport at around 4.55 pm.
Union External Affairs minister Sushma Swaraj had tweeted that the government has prioritised the evacuation of the team. “We will evacuate India’s U-14 girls football team on priority,” she said in Twitter.
