Four held for stealing coal from train

Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel on Sunday arrested four persons for stealing coal from a goods train near the south end of Radhakishorpur station located 48 km away from here and seized around sixteen bags of raw coal worth around Rs 4000 and four railway track bearing plates from their possession. The accused will be forwarded to the court today, police said.

The accused were identified as Ashok Sahoo (43), resident of Balisahi, Narsinghpur near Rajbati, at present staying at Bhogara, Pratap Kumar Behera (19) of Radhakishorpur, Manguli Behera (51) of Belda, Niranjan Das (53) of Belda, all under Khuntuni police station in Cuttack district.

According to Bhubaneswar RPF Inspector-in-Charge Barun KB, after getting information over phone from a RPF constable on duty, Santosh Kumar Chowdhury that he had detained four persons carrying away the stolen goods in a numberless auto rickshaw at the south end of Radhakishorpur station, officers with some staff from the RPF post in Bhubaneswar and Ghantikhal outpost rushed to the spot and arrested the four detained persons.

Last night, Ashok Sahoo committed theft of the railway bearing plates from the site of the gang hut in Radhakishorpur railway colony along with 16 bags of raw coal from a stationary train and kept it concealed near a bushy area by the side of railway track KM No.-426/27-31 of Radhakishorpur station. In the morning, he called the other three accused persons to shift the stolen property and load it to the auto rickshaw, said the IIC.

Sahoo confessed before the RPF team that he is the owner of the auto rickshaw, the IIC informed adding Sahoo was doing illegal activities in the area by identifying himself as a journalist.

An auto rickshaw loaded with four railway track bearing plates, seven bags of raw coal, each bag weighing about 15 kg and more and nine bags of raw coal kept near the auto rickshaw were seized by the RPF personnel.

A case has been registered against the accused under section 6 and 3A of Railway Property Unlawful Possession Act.
