Sundargarh, June 1:
Police today arrested four persons of a gang of looters and recovered the cash they had looted from a trader. They will be forwarded to the court tomorrow.
The arrested have been identified as Samod Singh (32), a car driver, Suraj Ekka (21), Md.Sanamul(18) and Abdul Gafar Khan (25).
Briefing newsmen here, Sundargarh SP Sundargarh R Prakash said two bike borne armed miscreants looted Rs 18,65,850 from Kamal Singhal (35), a grocery trader of Rourkela near Laing under the Rajgangpur police station limits on Sunday afternoon while he was on the way to his home in his car after collecting dues from the local businessmen in the town. The looters after intercepting his Maruti Zen car attacked Kamal with a knife and snatched away the cash.
Following information, police rushed to the spot and admitted Kamal to district headquarters hospital.
The SP said the police during preliminary investigation came to know that Masud, driver of Kamal’s car had stage-managed the loot in collusion with the three other arrested youths.
Police later nabbed the four youths and recovered Rs 18,32,960 and seized the car and two bikes from their possession.
“Police are now on the lookout of another accused Md. Faisal”, he said.
Rajgangpur SDPO SK Panigrahi and Rajgangpur IIC SP Das were present.
Meanwhile, sources in the hospital said the condition of Kamal was stable.
