The Commissionerate Police on Monday arrested four persons of a family from Kashipur village under Tamando police limits , who were detained on Sunday, and forwarded them to the local court here for allegedly killing their daughter-in-law for failing to meet their dowry demands.
The accused were identified as Prakash Behera (deceased’s husband), Purnachandra Behera (father of Prakash), mother Pravati Behera and sister Pratima Behera, all residents of Kashipur village.
A case (309/13) has been registered against the culprits and all were booked under section 498 (A), 323, 302, 304 (B), 506, 34 of IPC and section 4 of Dowry Prohibition Act.
The matter came to light when the woman’s father Trilochan Mandoi of Katha Khuntia village under Khurda police limits lodged the complaint with the local police station on Sunday alleging that he had given everything that her daughter’s in-laws had demanded. But because he failed to meet the additional dowry demands his son-in-law and his family had killed his daughter Pinky Behera by setting her on fire.
Acting on the complaint Tamando police detained Pinky’s father-in-law Purnachandra, and three others of her family for interrogation to ascertain the truth yesterday whom the police arrested today.
