Four die of asphyxia in Odisha’s Koraput

In a tragic incident, four persons died of suffocation inside an under-construciton septic tank in Odisha’s Koraput district.
According to reports, one Raju Khora of the Mathalput village near Damanjodi in the district had constructed a septic tank at the backyard of his home. While Raju— a mason— entered into the tank to clean it, he could not come out of it and died of suffocation. His assistant Bina Bhatra grew suspicious when he did not find any movement inside and went inside to rescue his master. He too got trapped and died of suffocation.
Two people— Balaram Mohanty alias Babula and Jina Bag— residing near Khora’s residence also jumped into the tank to rescue the duo but got stuck and died of asphyxiation, Sahaved Mohapatra, IIC Damanjodi police station said.
The villagers informed the Fire department officials who rushed to rescue the trapped people. Four of them in unconscious state were rushed to Mathalput Community Health Centre (CHC) where they were declared dead. Bodies were sent to district headquarters hospital for post-mortem.
