Chandpur (Nayagarh), Sept 8:
Police on Sunday detained four suspects in the gruesome murder of four members of a family inside their house at Chandpur under Ranpur police station limits in Odisha’s Nayagarh district.
“The sniffer dog pressed into the service has provided major clues. Besides, the finger prints reports of scientific team have given several angles to the investigation that have made it easier for us to track down the assailants,” Ranpur IIC Chandrasekhar Mohanty told reporters here on Sunday.
He said the police have seized two iron rods, a small knife, a towel, a stone and a ring through the sniffer dog.
Besides, police also have seized an objectionable item from Madhumangal ground at Tangi, Mohanty said declining to reveal what it is to the media.
Sources in the locality said that a local trader had taken a loan from the deceased Kasinath Behera (65) some days ago and there had been an altercation between them recently. This could be one of the causes for the murder, sources said.
Meanwhile, the bodies of the four family members were cremated at Swarga Dwara at Puri on Sunday evening after the post mortem was done at the Nayagarh district headquarters hospital.
