The Jajabara project built by Odisha government at a cost of Rs 4 crore on Bhubaneswar-Puri Highway aiming to provide motel facilities to tourists during the Nabakalebar festival in Puri is today lying abandoned.
Nabakalebara festival, the recreation of wooden forms of the four deities at Shree Jagannath Temple, Puri was held in 2015. The state government had anticipated around 30 lakh tourists to visit the holy town of Puri.
Inaugurated before Nabakalebar by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, three staffers had been kept for housekeeping. But this project has died even before take off, it has neither been used by tourists nor by travelers. Since Nabakalebara the gates of the tourist place are locked.
The project was targeted at tourists travelling on Bhubaneswar-Puri Highway to park their vehicles and partake rest and refreshments.
The project constructed as a modern architecture is spread on an area of 1.5 acres and has been developed by Odisha Tourism Development Corporation (OTDC).
