Four bike lifters nabbed, 12 bikes seized

In a joint operation, Laxmisagar and Lingaraj police arrested four bike lifters from Cuttack Road area here today and seized 12 motorcycles from their possession.
The four arrested have been identified as Susanta Behera (21) of Banki in Cuttack district, presently staying at Kedargouri Chhaka under Lingaraj police limits, Ranjan Pradhan (18) of Hatachhaka in Dasapalla in Nayagarh district, now staying at Tankapani road under Badagada police limits, Kalia Sahoo (18) of Mangalpur in Pipili in Puri district staying at Hatiasuni near Rabi Talkies under Badagada police limits and Manas Naik (22) of Belapada under Gania police limits in Nayagarh district presently residing at Rasulgarh Pala Mandap side under Mancheswar police limits.
A case (No.317/13) under section 379, 461 of IPC has been registered against the accused, who were forwarded to the local court here today.
According to the Inspector-in-charge (IIC) of Laxmisagar police station K C Mund, acting on a tip-off, a team from Laxmisgar police station along with Lingaraj police, arrested the four bike lifters from near a private bank in the Cuttack Road area while they were planning to steal motorcycles.
The 12 motor cycles seized from their possession included two bikes without registration numbers, the IIC said. The accused are habitual offenders and many cases are pending against them in different police stations in Khurda and Puri districts, he added.
Of them, Manas is said to be also involved in looting of bank ATM batteries. He had looted two ATM batteries from the State Bank of Patiala ATM located in Cuttack Road on November 29 this month.
“During interrogation of the accused, we came to know that more persons were involved in bike lifting. Investigation is on to recover 15-20 more bikes from the looters,” the IIC said.
