Four arrested for looting Odisha capital hospital staff

Commissionerate police today claimed to have busted a loot case, which reportedly took place in February last year, with the arrest of four persons in Odisha capital.

The city police arrested four persons from Ganjam district for their alleged involvement in the loot of Rs 17 lakh from employees of Aditya Care Hospital here in February last year while they were about to enter a bank to deposit cash at around 11 am.

One of the arrested persons includes a former employee of the city-based private hospital. The former employee identified as Gagan Kumar Nayak worked as an office assistant.

“One of the members of the gang is a former employee of the hospital. He had passed on the information to his aides that cash was being taken to the bank in a vehicle for deposit.The accused have been arrested from Buguda area in Bhanjanagar. They are also involved in three loot incidents in the capital city this year,” Twin City Commissioner RP Sharma told reporters here today.

Police recovered cash, a pistol and two motorcycles from their possession.

On February 3 last year, three bike-borne armed miscreants had looted Rs 17 lakh cash along with a Rs 1 lakh cheque kept in a bag from an employee of Aditya Care Hospital at gun point in front of the Andhra Bank located at the Damana Square under Chandrasekhapur police limits here.

The accountant of Aditya Care Hospital– Jayadev Kumar Das– accompanied by the driver, an unarmed security guard and three other staff of the hospital were on their way to the bank to deposit the cash and the Rs 1 lakh cheque in the office vehicle.

While getting down from their vehicle, three miscreants on a bike suddenly waylaid them and asked to hand over the bag containing the cash and the cheque to them. When they refused to do so, they whipped out a revolver and fired a couple of blank shots to the ground. After snatching the bag, they fled towards Damana Haat.
