Bhubaneswar, Sep 4:
Over two-and-half- years of revocation of his suspension from the party, former Lanjigarh MLA Shivaji Majhi today joined Congress. Besides, former MP Nakul Nayak also joined Congress.
Orissa Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) had suspended Majhi from the party on charges of horse-trading during Rajya Sabha polls in 2010. The then Lanjigarh MLA had abstained from voting during the polls despite party whip to vote in favour of Independent candidate Tara Ranjan Patnaik. After about a year, he was suspended from the party in June 2011.
However, his suspension was revoked in January 2014.
“We realised that Shivaji Majhi was not at fault so we inducted him back to our party,” Kalahandi District Congress president Gobardhan Das said.
Similarly, former Lok Sabha MP Nakul Nayak also joined Congress. Nayak had quit Biju Janata Dal (BJD) in 2009 after he was denied a ticket to contest polls.
Following his expulsion from Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) in 2004, he had joined Samajwadi Party and unsuccessfully contested the polls from Kandhamal Lok Sabha segment. He won as the MP from Kandhamal in 2009 on a Samajwadi Party ticket.
